Torlon® and KetaSpire® high-performance material components
from GAPI

Torlon® PAI by Syensqo (hereinafter referred to as “Torlon®”) is a high-performance plastic based on polyamide-imide (PAI) and is one of the most efficient engineering polymers for extreme operating conditions. Torlon® is a registered trademark of Syensqo. GAPI's Torlon® materials are used wherever maximum mechanical strength, excellent wear resistance, and temperature stability are required.

With the PAI GLon™ material family – a brand name of GAPI Technische Produkte GmbH – GAPI offers components and assemblies from a specifically tailored portfolio of Torlon® materials, which includes both classic Torlon grades and modern ones. Whether as a wear-resistant wear grade, high-strength structural material, or carbon fiber-reinforced high-strength variant, PAI GLon™ from GAPI impresses in demanding applications in mechanical engineering, the automotive industry, commercial vehicles, and electric drives.

Thanks to its many years of materials expertise, GAPI supports its customers in the selection, substitution, and optimization of Torlon® components—including solutions that are future-proof in terms of regulations.

Your advantages over standard plastics

Mechanical properties

  • High strength and rigidity – stable even at high temperatures
  • Excellent wear resistance – ideal for tribological applications
  • Low friction – ideal for plain bearings, sealing rings, and thrust washers
  • Impact resistance – resistant to mechanical stress
  • The materials have high creep resistance. This means that even under high loads, there is no cold flow of the material as with PTFE solutions.

Thermal resistance

  • High temperature resistance – depending on the material, can be used at temperatures above +260°C
  • Low-temperature resistance – remains functional even at -200°C
  • Low thermal expansion coefficient – minimized dimensional changes during temperature fluctuations
  • Due to the extremely high glass transition temperature of over +280°C, the mechanical properties are retained across the entire range

Chemical properties and environmental resistance

  • High resistance to chemicals – resistant to oils, solvents, and aggressive media
  • Corrosion-resistant – no oxidation as with metals
  • Electrically insulating or conductive – depending on the material for specific applications

Processing and design freedom

  • Suitable for complex geometries – ideal for injection molding and CNC machining
  • Plastic-compatible design possible – enables functional integration and material savings
  • Weight reduction – up to 80% lighter than metal

Electrical properties

  • GAPI's high-performance plastics can also be used as electrical insulators. Due to their high temperature resistance – even over long periods – they are ideal for use in electrical or electronic components.
  • Modification with carbon fiber achieves a certain degree of conductivity, allowing these materials to be used for shielding electromagnetic interference.
  • In addition, GAPI's high-performance plastics are characterized by low flammability and material fatigue.

Naming our material families

The names of our material families are deliberately derived from the combination of GAPI and the base polymers used in each case.
GLon™ is composed of G for GAPI and Lon for Torlon® and identifies our high-performance PAI-based materials.
The naming underscores both the material basis and our own expertise in materials technology.
